David Shrigley always makes me laugh...fact! He is an artist and illustrator but also an animator, sculptor, music video director and maker of exceptionally good tea towels!
David, in interviews, can often come across slightly awkward and he is "Self-branded as an outsider in the art world".
His naively constructed work that focuses on the bizarre, the trivial, sometimes the inexplicable and down right strange side of life, is truly captivating in its finished form. The outcome of these seemingly absent minded doodles take their final form in the shape of some amazingly immersive pieces that are exquisite to observe, painfully humorous to read and worryingly close to our own lives.
His work can be found as a weekly contributor of cartoons to the Guardian Weekend magazine, he has released spoken-word albums and has held exhibitions world wide from San Francisco to Copenhagen, and the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow where he lives and works. He has recently had his work "Really Good" displayed on the fourth plinth in Trafalger square. In 2013, he was nominated for the prestigious Turner Prize for his solo show David Shrigley: Brain Activity at the Hayward Gallery in London.
But mainly he will make you laugh!
